Eight girls, including three minors, wept profusely and hugged the police as soon as they were rescued from a brothel on Friday. The girls were kept in inhuman conditions by Kanchi Kancha Tamang at the infamous red light area of Budhwarpeth and had not even seen sunlight for several days.u00a0
Rescued
In a major crackdown, the fourth in July, a team of Crime Branch officials conducted a raid and rescued the girls who were forcibly kept in 1070, Juni Welcome building. ACP Sangramsingh Nishandar said, "When our officers reached the spot, these girls cried and asked to save them."
Senior PI Ravindra Bhambre and PSI Vimal Bidwe said, "These girls held us tight and told us to take them away. They thanked us and said that they have stepped out after several days."
Speaking on the inhuman conditions, Bidwe said, "Tamang beat the girls and abused them. Out of the eight girls, one is a mother of a three year old who was kept somewhere else. We rescued him later. Another girl, who has a six-month-old baby was brought here with the promise of an attractive job. She was forced to keep her child in Kolkata."
Arrest
She added, "Tamang has been arrested under IPC Sections 363, 366, 372, 373, 323, 504 and other sections of the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act. "Theu00a0 brothel owner also has two cases pending against her for forcing girls into the flesh trade."
Bidwe said the raid was conducted after NGO Freedom Firm alerted them. Shyam Kamble, co-ordinator, Freedom Firm, said, "We were all touched when we saw the girls free. It was a pleasing sight and we could not hold back our tears."
