Allegations of cheating and misappropriation of funds against the Team Anna member, who claims she'll come out clean
Delhi police on Sunday filed a case of cheating against Team Anna member Kiran Bedi, for allegedly misappropriating funds meant for her NGOs, in line with a court's directive. The activist however claims she has 'sound evidence and endurance' to deal with the FIR.
Trust to mistrust
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Amit Bansal had directed the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police to register the case against Bedi on a complaint by Delhi-based lawyer Devinder Singh Chauhan, who has alleged that she has 'looted' various para-military forces and state police organisations in the name of imparting free computer training through 'Meri Police' under the banner of her trust India Vision Foundation.
In his complaint, Chauhan had alleged that Bedi had received donations of over Rs 50 lakh from Microsoft in the name of free computer training to the kids and families of the personnel of BSF, CISF, ITBP, CRPF and other state police organisations.
Chauhan alleged that Bedi is liable to be prosecuted for various offences including sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 477A (falsification of accounts) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.
Reacting to the court order, Bedi tweeted: "I am informed an FIR is registered against me. For me now nothing is a surprise! It only strengthens my resolve to do more."
Travel travails
Earlier, Bedi was caught in a travel bill controversy for reportedly travelling economy class while claiming the charges of business class on a flight. Bedi on October 24 said she would return the excess airfare, which was paid to her by her sponsors and had been used by her to fund a charity organisation.
