Change expected: The governing council of FTII has given the Nair
panel till June 15 for its report on the upgrade of the institute

The newly-formed governing council members, in the city for a two-day visit to FTII, met the members of the P K Nair committee, who presented an interim report, yesterday.

Saeed Mirza, the new chairperson, said that they have given the committee time till June 15 to submit a final and complete report.

Sharing a few highlights of the meeting, Mirza said: "The report points out how to take care of backlog issues, develop infrastructure, address overcrowding in hostels and rationalisation of the courses." The issue of qualified teachers was among the top agenda of the governing council.

"I want to make FTII a national centre of excellence in film and television and secondly, we want qualified teachers for the students so that they get a proper understanding of their subjects," Mirza said. P K Nair refused to speak to the media and preferred to give the governing council a chance to speak.

A large number of students were waiting patiently to meet the new members. Mirza also interacted with few students present but in spite of this, students were not hopeful that the new body would take any positive steps towards the betterment of the institute. A second year student said: "We are not very hopeful that if the governing council will implement the points we have highlighted."u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0
