After going through list put up at city colleges, many complain of incorrect marks, missing names, minor errors like wrong spelling

Confusion prevailed among city students as the first merit list for first-year junior college (FYJC) was displayed across five colleges yesterday. The first merit list for science vocational (bifocal) course admissions was on display across five colleges, namely Wadia College, Fergusson College, Garware College, SP College and Akurdi's Shree Mhalasakant College after 1 pm.

Anxious to know if they had got admission into their favourite college or not, students and their parents had crowded at the colleges much before the appointed hour. As soon as the merit list was put up, a large number of students were seen heading to college offices with their queries.

MiD DAY spoke to a few students and found out that many felt that the calculation of marks was done incorrectly and the total marks they received were different from those displayed in the merit list. The students were told to collect grievance slips and fill out their queries. The slips have to be submitted between today and Thursday at either Fergusson or Wadia College.

Aditya Kavade, a resident of Shaniwar Peth who had come to Fergusson College, said that though he had the required marks, he did not get into any college. "I have 324 marks while the lowest cut-off is much lesser. Yet my name doesn't appear on the list and that's why I am complaining to the centralised admission committee," he said.

Some students complained of miscalculation of marks; most said the marks for cultural and sports activities hadn't been added up. "I should have got five more marks for my participation in sports and I had submitted all required documents and proof asked at the time of filling up forms. Yet those marks haven't been added up.

Had they been added, I would have got into a college of my choice," said another student, requesting anonymity. Some students like Shrutika Dumbre from Sinhagad Road were seen filling up the grievance slips because she had received extra marks. "My total marks are five marks less than that displayed on the merit list. May be, they got it wrong and I don't want trouble later," she said.
