The Facebook account of the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of the Dahisar Division was hacked yesterday

Sunil Deshmukh, who has in the past worked on several sensitive cases such as the shootout at Lokhandwala, the 7/11 train blasts and was also a part of the team that deported gangster Abu Salem and interrogated him, was informed just yesterday that his account had been hacked and his information had been tampered with.u00a0

The incident came to light when Deshmukh's friends and relatives were shocked to see that his account said that he had resigned from the police force. Deshmukh, who is currently travelling, said he was unable to view his Facebook account. He said, "I am out of town and some of my friends have brought to my notice that my account status has changed and saying that I have resigned from the force. I have received several calls from people about it."

After he was told of the incident, Deshmukh posted on his Facebook wall, "Hi friends. Someone has hacked my Facebook account and posted information that I have left the force. It is not true. I am complaining about it to the cyber crime police."

Incidentally, Wednesday was the seventh anniversary of the 7/11 serial train blasts, a case that Deshmukh worked on and had cracked with his Anti-Terrorism Squad colleagues.

Safety first
Security experts say that changing passwords regularly and an alpha-numeric along with special characters will help one to keep hackers at bay. Additionally, they say that one should only accept friend requests from people you know, as ‘strangers can be hackers'.
