Man held for selling fake driving licences bearing Mathura RTO stamp to people in city

The Hadapsar police arrested a 23-year-old man for selling fake driving licences bearing the stamp of Mathura RTO. The accused reportedly confessed to giving such licences to four people in the city.

The accused was identified as Zaheer Siddiqui (23) hailing from Rasalpur in Uttar Pradesh but currently living in Hadapsar. The police charged him with forgery.

Javed Karim Syed (25) of Ramtekdi near Hadapsar filed the complaint in this regard.

Siddiqui worked as a technician since a year and met the complainant at Mantri Niwas building. He boasted of his contacts at the Pune RTO and assured Syed of giving him a driving licence without any tests.

Rs 5,000 for licence
Police Sub-Inspector B K Chavan, who is investigating the case, said, "Zaheer took the address proof and other documents from Syed and Rs 5,000u00a0 for the work. Instead of giving the driver's licence from Pune-RTO, Zaheer used fake stamps and signatures of Mathura-RTO and gave him the licence."

Assuming that his licence was issued by the Pune RTO, Syed went there a few days ago to get another type of licence, but was told that a no-objection-certificate from the Mathura RTO would be required to convert his licence.

"This was when Syed realised that his licence was not from Pune RTO and that he had been issued a fake licence by Zaheer," said Chavan. "Syed then confronted Zaheer and demanded that he get the NOC from Mathura RTO or return his money. But Zaheer was not able to fulfil any of the demands. Hence, the case was filed. During interrogation it was revealed that Zaheer had used fake stamps of Mathura RTO."

The police suspect that more such cases will come out in the open with Siddiqui's arrest.

"So far Zaheer has confessed that he gave away fake licenses to four persons from Pune but we think there might be more victims. We are also searching for his accomplices and also would check whether any Mathura-RTO officer or employee is involved in the racket," Chavan said.
