A 38-year-old man and his nine-year-old daughter were both killed while crossing railway tracks at Vitthalwadi railway station at Kalyan early in the morning on Thursday.
The deceased, Mohan Gelod, lived at Brahmanpada, Ulhasnagar-3 with his wife, Sangita and his daughter.
After an altercation with Gelod last week, his wife had left him to live at her mother's house in Vangani last week.
Sources said Gelod was HIV positive, and that was what had caused the argument.
According to police, the incident happened around 5.30 am. On Thursday, Gelod decided to go to Vangani to bring his wife back home.
He took his daughter Nisha and reached Vitthalwadi railway station. As he was buying his ticket, a local train arrived at the station on the opposite platform. Running to board the train, Gelod and his daughter crossed the track and came under the train.
Both Gelod and Nisha were knocked down by the train and died on the spot.
The government railway police (GRP), Kalyan have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) into the matter. "We have registered an ADR as reported by the station master," said Arun Jagtap, senior inspector, Kalyan GRP. u00a0
