"If there's one thing people enjoy spending money on, it's their kids." That's an observation that led MBAs Neha and Aditya Saraf to set up a niche shopping destination for kiddie furniture.
All grown up: Kids will love the grown-up appeal this South Mumbai store offers. A multi-coloured rocking chair (Rs 5,900), and a mini sofa-set upholstered in pink and silver leather (Rs 20,000) are sure to catch their eye.
Two tea-cups positioned on a footstool in the furniture display, lend an air of adult sophistication. A Ferrari-themed bedding-set (Rs 9,800) and swivel chairs that are designed for budding basketball and soccer fans (Rs 6,000 for all novel swivel chairs) promise to become a hot buy for little boys.
Practicality at a price: A built-to-grow cot from the store's Young America range, is pricey at Rs 99,000, but it comes with extensions. It can be extended into a day-bed with side railings as the child grows, and thereafter into a single-bed. But their super-storage, high quality Italian bunk-bed set failed to impress us. High on style as the Domeo unit was, its price (Rs 6,50,000) seemed intended for stars ironic, that a unit that caters to the space-shortage that middle-income home-owners struggle with should be priced for king-sized budgets.
You can customise your kiddie room: Though their products are available in a giant palette (most are available in over 20 colours), the store specialises in customising kids' rooms. The Sarafs are available to go over blue-prints, plans and design ideas with you and work out the ideal layout for your child's room, "at no extra charge other than whatever the family spends towards the furniture."
The also undertake orders to design or modify pieces. A pin-board we came across, for instance, costs Rs 580 per square foot and can bear any print ranging from animals and cars, to your child's photograph.
Gift items: The store also has a large range of gifts to suit various budgets and occasions. Adorable bathroom in ceramic finish, but cast in fibre, are priced at Rs 13,000 onwards and most of these include dustbins, rugs, soap dishes, liquid-soap dispensers, toothbrush and toothpaste-holders and tissue boxes.
