Foreigners dance on Hindi numbers at the commune to welcome 2009
Although recession in Europe had thrown a damper on the festive spirit and affected the inflow of international tourist traffic in India, people from nearly 30 countries including, UK, Italy and France, danced, gyrated, hummed and clapped to the beat of Bollywood numbers at the Osho International Commune in Pune on the New Years' eve.
Welcoming the new year at Budhdha Grove, the meditators from various countries and belonging to different races and religions had a gala late into the night, aping Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif.
The highlight was English, Taiwanese, Italians and Greeks singing Hindi songs with a live international band.
Asked about the effect of recession on the inflow of foreigners, Amrit Sadhana, member of the management at the commune said, "Just as Indian tourism is hit by the global recession, Osho Ashram being part of the national tourism is also affected. It shows that the world is becoming one and we all go through the same situations around the world."
Nearly 70 dancers from 30 countries staged a musical love story titles Rocking In to let go their economic blues.
Frenchman Goradana took on the notes of Pehli Nazar Mein to utmost perfection, while Satyam from UK and a keyboard artist, presented Teri Ore.
Meanwhile, Rock On number was presented by an Indianu2013Italian duo.
"In just three weeks all dancers and vocalists from across the world picked up the mood of the songs and presented coordinated movements to perfection," choreographer Dilara said.
Dilara attributed the success to the place where meditators indulge themselves in long hours of meditation everyday and said, "Osho inspires us."
Unveiling the reason behind how the performers picked up the mood and danced to Bollywood numbers with exquisite ease Dilara added, "Daily meditation and resonance attributed to this place helped them to pick up steps very fast."
