A fire broke out in a slum area next to Andheri's Laxmi Industrial Estate on Friday afternoon at around 3.21 pm.

While three women got burn injuries and were rushed to civic-run Cooper hospital after the fire broke out, rescue operation is still on to completely douse the fire, said an official from the fire control room.

Around 30-40 huts were damaged in the fire, however, no deaths have been reported yet.

The fire brigade officials rushed to the spot where four water tanks and another four fire engines along with three ambulances are still present.

"The fire is under control and as locals were alerted about it, major casualties were avoided," said a fire official.

After the medical check-up of the three women who were taken to Cooper hospital, Dr Shashikant Wadekar medical superintendent of the hospital said, "One woman has sustained 25 percent burns while the other two who were brought to the hospital at around 5 pm are being examined by our doctors to determine the extent of burn injuries."

He further added that the third woman was lucky enough not to sustain any burn injuries.

While the reason behind the fire breaking out or the source is yet unknown, investigations are now being carried out.
