Despite a circular issued by the city's police commissioner Dr Satyapal Singh asking his subordinates to peel off the 'Police' sticker from their personal vehicles, officers continue to sport the label

A month-and-a half after a notice was issued warning police personnel against affixing ‘Police' stickers on their personal vehicles, several cops have been found flouting the diktat.

Moreover, to curb the violations, the traffic police carried out several drives to deter their own from using police stickers on their vehicles, but despite the admonition the warning has fallen on deaf ears.

In the month of October, the Commissioner of Police Dr Satyapal Singh had issued a circular stating that no police officials are supposed to affix ‘Police' stickers on their vehicles. However, it seems his subordinates are ignoring the regulation, as several vehicles are still spotted with the sticker.

Speaking to MiD DAY Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) Pratap Dighavkar said, "After the order was issued many constables and police officers have removed the stickers.

The response has been positive. Our team has been conducting frequent drives to catch and prosecute offenders." According to Dighavkar, police personnel can be booked under sections of the Motor Vehicles Act and are also liable to a fine of Rs 100 for violating the rules.

Terrorists could misuse the ‘police' sticker and enter city
The indiscriminate use of stickers poses a security threat, as miscreants could misuse it and terrorists could gain an easy entry into secure places considering that ‘Police' vehicles are rarely checked.

Moreover, with police impersonation cases at an all-time high, the CP had passed this new order. In the notice, Dr Singh has mentioned that terrorists could misuse the ‘Police' sticker and come into the city, as vehicles with such stickers are not stopped at the city's entry points.

When Dighavkar was informed that several vehicles were still plying with the sticker, he said, "There are exceptions and we are working on it. As per the law no one is eligible to make any changes to their vehicle after they register it with the local RTO. They can only make changes if the RTO authorities permit them to do so."
