If you are in a blue funk and need some colour and cheer in life, Ruchi Mohinder's creations might just be what the doctor ordered. Under the brand name Floreal, Ruchi makes rings, brooches, earrings, pendants, and necklaces combining materials like clay beads, wood, polymer clay, metal, stones and fabric.
Originally from Chandigarh, Ruchi did her Masters in Urban Planning from Texas. She does Urban and Transit planning at her day job and makes jewellery in her free time. Based in Arlington in the USA, she sells her stuff all over the world, via her e-store.
Her brand name has a French connectu00a0-- Floreal is the eighth month in the French Republican calendar, which denotes spring and flowering. "I love colours and nature, so Floreal was a perfect match," she shares. Ruchi defines her jewellery as wearable art. "Most of my jewellery involves a lot of detailed work. It's almost like a composition or a painting. Each of the pieces are handcrafted and one-of-a-kind and blend texture, material and colours. I create my pieces only when an idea really excites me," she adds.
Floreal came into being after plenty of experimentation since Ruchi did not have a background in jewellery designing. "Through my creations, I am trying to create a balance between the East and the West. So, while the designs are inspired by certain Indian motifs, I also stay true to Western trends. Hence, these jewels can blend well with both Indian and Western outfits."
Despite her hectic
schedule she plans to diversify into home accessories as well. "If you like doing something you make time for it. That is the motto I live with," she concludes.
