The concept of asking the players to take a lead in planting trees is the brainchild of Manish Anand, the organiser of the event and vice president of the Khadki Cantonment Board.
"I'm extremely happy that players from all over the country accepted our request to participate in the noble cause," Anand said. He added that over 1,000 trees will be planted in several schools, gardens and open plots in Khadki area by the players.
Also, the players who had already planted the saplings yesterday said that that they would come and see the trees next year when they come again to participate in the tournament.
Participating teams Bank of India (Mumbai), KSP (Bangalore), Young Brothers (Mhow in MP), Bengal State Transport, Orrisa East Coast Railways, CRPF (Jalandhar), WCR Sports Club (Bhopal), Goa's Wilred Leisure, TTFC Blue (Gujarat), J&K Police, Nagpur United, Nagpur Railways, Beed XI, Central Railways (Mumbai), Miraj XI, RCF (Mumbai), New Star (Sangli, Aurangabad and Marathwada)
