"It's an old-fashioned variety show," says Cyrus Broacha, about Cyrusitis, The One-and-a-half Man Show that opens in Mumbai in the next fortnight. Broacha and buddy-cum-partner-in-all-crimes Kunal Vijaykar take the stage with all-new original gags.

Cyrus Broacha and Kunal Vijayakar are dead serious about making you laugh

The audio-visual show is of an interactive nature and sees the two respond to the surge of Western stand-up comedians who are pouring into the city, and the local guys who've bulldozed their way onto reality TV. "First there was Raju Srivastav & Co., who did stand-up in Hindi. Now, there are these foreigners who are out to ruin our comedy market. There's tonnes of competition. Back when we started with MTV, around '96, all I did was write two jokes and I thought even that was too much work," recalls Broacha.

To sock rivals in theu00a0 face, Broacha and Vijaykar are desperately hunting for a "hot girl" to join them. "If we find her before the opening day, we'll include her too," says Vijaykar. The chances seem slim though. After all, Broacha tried hard to find a replacement for Vijaykar, and failed. "I asked Priyanka Chopra, Aishwarya Rai, even Jennifer Lopez. All three refused. I've even tried getting Himmesh to be with me. I'm forced to settle for Kunal," rues Broacha, who makes a comeback on stage after almost a decade.

As for the "One-and-a-half Man" part of the title, Broacha clarifies that it's Vijaykar who is the "half man" since he refused to keep standing on stage for 90 minutes. "Kunal says he has a hip problem, so he's only making 4-5 entries during the show. Why should he get the same credit I do when I'm going to be up there and toiling all along?"
