Police suspect that more ultras were killed in the gun battle that ensued after a patrol party came under fire from the insurgents in the wee hours near Bhatpar village in Bhamragad taluka.
"The gun battle ensued after the police party on anti- naxal operation in Bhatpar area was fired upon by naxals, following which police returned the fire in which four ultras were killed," ASP (Aheri) Rahul Shrirame told PTI over phone.
The officer said police found four bodies of the ultras from the spot and suspect that the number of naxal casualties could be more. Police have intensified combing in the region following the skirmish, he said.
The latest incident is said to be another success for police after the Govindgaon encounter in January when six top rebels, including two women cadres, were gunned down.
