Fortune has finally smiled on Gadkari. "Now, even a large number of BJP cadres are satisfied with his leadership and feel that he is destined to play an important role in national politics," said a senior BJP leader, requesting anonymity.

"BJP's wins in 91 of the 102 assembly seats it contested in Bihar was one of the best electoral performances of the party ever, anywhere. There is no harm in accepting Gadkari as our leader," said a party office bearer.
According to sources, the party will launch a book titled 'Sangathan Sarvopari', will only mention Gadkari's activities and achievements in the past one year, during the two-day meet, which will be attended by top party leaders including LK Advani, Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Rajnath Singh, Venkaiya Naidu and Chief Ministers of all BJP-ruled states. "The book will collate all his activities including his selected speeches, thoughts and initiatives. It will be distributed in the meeting at Guwahati," said a source in at the BJP Central office.

Popular support
What will also aid his cause are the results of a survey conducted by a leading newspaper in eight states. Gadkari scores highly in it for his 'administrative and management acumen' that helped the party's remarkable success in the Bihar polls. More than three quarters of the respondents in Assam, Bihar, Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal felt he was the best candidate for party presidency when he was appointed.

The highest approval rating for Gadkari came from Karnataka, which the BJP rules, followed closely by Congress-ruled Delhi. Surprisingly, the Left-ruled West Bengal and Kerala revealed 'high approval ratings' for Gadkari.

'Take aim'
So with this shot in the arm and the added ammunition of Bofors, Gadkari appears ready to take on the UPA and the world. However, unlike previous meetings, BJP leaders won't make personal attacks on UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Corruption and growing infiltration in the country will be the focus. At the meet, the party will also organise an exhibition highlighting corruption which 'has engulfed the nation at present'.

In view of the forthcoming polls in Assam, the party is also planning a separate resolution on Northeast, reiterating its stand against illegal Bangladeshi migrants and outfits like ULFA.

All for telangana

Earlier this week, BJP President Nitin Gadkari came down to Adilabad, the northernmost district of Telangana and barely 250 km from his hometown of Nagpur, to address a rally in support ofu00a0 Telangana. Gadkari said that his party's commitment to Telangana was unequivocal and that BJP would paralyse the budget session of Parliament if a Bill for creation of a separate state was not introduced.
With the Srikrishna report not really gung-ho about creation of Telangana and the TRS having rejected the recommendations of the committee, the scene is set for a protracted battle. The sentiments for a separate state runs very deep in Telangana region. The people will favour any party that supports their aspirations.u00a0 On Tuesday, Gadkari had assured people of Telangana that the NDA was with them in realising their dream of a separate state.
"I have come to assure you that all 165 MPs of NDA will support the bill on Telangana if Sonia Gandhi fulfils her promise by tabling the bill," he said.
