The biggest sporting event of the year finally makes its way to gaming consoles, and the question on everyone's minds is whether it will live up to the hype.
In one word? Yes.
The 2010 FIFA World Cup is an evolutionary step in Electronic Arts' long-running football series. This time, in addition to the expected tweaks, it also makes the game accessible to a broader audience.
The atmosphere of the world cup is captured wonderfully in every aspect, from the official theme songs to the commentary, the screaming fans, the fireworks, the confetti, and yes, the annoying vuvuzelas too. With 199 teams to choose from and customisation options aplenty, you can tailor the tournament to your liking.
The gameplay is rock-solid; it's immensely satisfying to execute a sequence of well-timed passes and volleys to set up a scoring opportunity. The two-button control system makes the game easily accessible to newcomers.
Graphically the game is quite good, although up close, the player likenesses range from acceptable to atrocious. Aside from the main tournament, other modes featured include Story of Qualifying and Captain Your Country.
Fast, fluid and realistic gameplay coupled with fantastic presentation make thisu00a0 a great soccer game, one that both newbies and veterans alike will enjoy. Football fans, don't miss this one.
