The police have busted a gang which used to lure young girls from other states to the Capital on the pretext of providing jobs and then forced them into prostitution.

The gang was exposed after a 20-year-old girl hailing form Jharkhand escaped when some persons tried to rape her in a moving car after making her drink liquor. The girl jumped form the moving car in Defence Colony area and raised alarm. Seeing the girl shouting for help, passersby called the police who reached the spot almost immediately and rescued the girl.

Police said that the girl Rima (name changed) was a native of Jharkhand. She had been brought to the Capital by her acquaintance Jai Ram. "Jai Ram introduced Rima to three persons identified as Raj Kumar, Saleem and Pinku and told her that they will help her get a job and then left the place after having allegedly taken money from them. The trio then offered her liquor but she denied. They then beat her up and tried to gang rape her," said the police source.

Jai Ram had earlier brought Rima's elder sister to the capital a few months back in a similar fashion. He used to visit her family regularly and when Rima had asked him why his sister wasn't calling them, he had told her that she was ill and bedridden for a few days.

Following a written complaint by the victim, police began to investigate into the matter and arrested all the four accused on February 6, sources said.

During interrogation, police found that the accused used to first make the girls drink liquor to put them in an inebriated condition. They later gang raped them and shot their videos in compromising positions. The girls were then blackmailed and forced into prostitution. "They have made many girls their victim. This was not their first time," police said.

Rape Capital?

If one goes by the figures released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) recently, thenu00a0 crime figures for the Capital compared to other cities in India for 2009 reveal that almost one-fourth of the rapes were reported from Delhi.
Similarly, almost two-fifth of kidnappings/abductions of women happened in Delhi and so where 15 percentu00a0 of dowry deaths and 14 percentu00a0 of molestation cases.
The figures show that among 35 mega cities in India, Delhi reported 404 out of 1,696 rapes; 1,379 out of total 3,544 cases of kidnapping and abduction of women, 104 out of 684 dowry deaths and 491 out of 3,477 cases of molestation during the period under study.
Among the cities, Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai accounted for 13.2 percent, 9.4 percent and 9.1 percent respectively of the total crimes - over one-third of the total crimes reported from 35 mega cities.

Student gangraped

A student of a south Delhi school was gangraped by her neighbour and two of his friends last week, police said on Monday.
The 16-year-old girl, a resident of RK Puram and a student of a private school in Chanakyapuri area, was raped by the three youths on Jan 2. Her parents filed a complaint on Jan 3 and police arrested the three youths on Sunday.
Police said that the accused have been identified as Mohit Pal, a friend and neighbour of the girl, and his two friends Sharad Kumar and Amit. All of them are in the age group 20 and 25. Mohit and Amit live in government quarters in Sector 6 in RK Puram area. The accused work for different hotels in the city in menial posts. The victim, a native of Kerala, lives with her family in the same area.
In the complaint, the victim said on Jan 2, after school she met Mohit outside her school and he took her to a restaurant for lunch. After that he took her to his friend Sharad's rented accommodation in Mohammadpur (behind Bhikaji Cama Place) saying he wants to spend some time with her.
After reaching there, Mohit surreptitiously asked Sharad and Amit to come over there. They took turns to rape the girl and kept her confined for a couple of hours. They also threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about the matter, police said .
