Gang of six robs Rs l0 lakh from marriage party at the Parvatamma Convention Hall in Kempegowda Nagar

Playing cards and drunken revelry proved costly for a group of baratis in Parvatamma Convention Hall in Kempegowda Nagar, who were robbed of Rs 10 lakh, hours before the muhurat.

The incident took place on Tuesday night at the hall, where the bride's family had gathered for the marriage ceremony next morning.

"We visited the hall to check the facilities. Satisfied, we decided to spend the night there," said Santosh, the bride's brother.

Santosh said that after some ceremonies, a few of the bride's friends and relatives had alcohol in the convention hall.

"We were drinking and playing cards, when a stranger walked in asking if he could join in the game. As we were in an inebriated state, we allowed him to play.

"After an hour, those who were not playing went out for tea. The unknown man used the opportunity to call his gang. Six persons entered the room with choppers, cricket stump and meat cleavers.

"They took all the gold ornaments and money from us. They also took the mobile phone from the stranger but I guess it must have been a ruse.

A few seconds later, the stranger fled," said Santosh, who blamed the lack of security lapse at the convention hall for the incident.

"We have lost nearly Rs 10 lakh. At the time of the incident, the security personnel were asleep. The police are blaming us. If they want we will help in every way but we want the culprits to be caught."

Inspector HK Ramesh Kumar of the KG Nagar police station, confirmed that the incident had occurred.

"We are investigating the case. We are also questioning the victims and the management of the convention hall because playing cards and betting are offences too."
