"On Thursday afternoon, the police team from the headquarters took the custody of Yadav, who is an accused in a murder case at Bhosari police station. After he was produced in Shivajinagar court, the team returned to the jail to hand over Yadav to the police," said an official from Yerawada police station.
He said that while the prisoner was being handed over to the jail authorities at the main entrance of the prison, he was thoroughly frisked during which a small sachet of ganja was found in his slipper, hidden in a cavity.
"When the police personnel asked him where he got the drug, he said that one of his friends, who had come to the court to meet him, had handed over the sachet to him and he had put it in his slipper by cutting it up," he said.
Yerawada police have registered a case against Yadav under relevant sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Police are also trying to establish the identity of his friend.
