Fire officials say a short circuit and carelessness on the owner's part caused the incident

A fire broke out at a readymade garment factory outlet's first floor in Nagarbhavi II Stage, next to BDA Shopping Complex, yesterday night around 9.35 pm.

The shop owners had closed the showroom minutes ago before the incident occurred. Luckily, the neighbours noticed smoke coming out of the building, and the rushed the fire department, who deployed two vehicles to douse the flames.

No casualties were reported as the store was closed at the time, and was closed and no one were inside the building. It is a three storied building and the fire had broke out in the first floor of the building.

"There was no proper ventilation in the building, due to which there was a lot of smoke. We had to break open the glass windows for the smoke to clear out," said J H Ravishankar, South Zone Regional fire officer.

He added, "Our fire officers managed to enter the first floor with oxygen masks and doused the fire off. The situation was brought under control and three vehicles were pressed into service. A shoert circuit near the meter board was the cause of fire."

"The showroom owners have not taken proper fire safety measures. A part of the stock, which was stored on the first floor, had caught fire. The rest of the stock is safe," he added.

Somanath, owner, said, "I still don't know how much is the damaged yet, because I have not yet gone inside the shop and inspected it."
