With the organisers lining up some bright young talent, whose parents or family members have garnered fame with their musical abilities over the years, these rising stars are expected to be treat to watch for classical music lovers.u00a0
The festival this year will mark the 60th year of classical music extravaganza, and there would be as many as 31 performances by over 40 artists, who will enthral classical music lovers. The festival is being organised by the Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal and shall take place at New English School Raman Baug grounds from December 11 to 16.
Shrinivas Joshi, executive president, Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal, said, "The highlight of this year's festival would be performances by the kin of veteran artists who would perform either together or independently."u00a0On December 11, the festival will begin with a âshehnai' performance by Ashwini and Sanjiv Shankar, who are grandchildren of noted âshehnai' player Pt Anant Lal.
The second day will witness a performance by Sawai Gandharva's granddaughter Padma Deshpande (vocal), as well as Ayaan and Amaan Ali Khan, sons of Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan, who will aim to captivate audiences with their âsarod'recital. The third day will showcase artistes like Sanjeev Chimmalgi (vocal), Farooque Latif Khan and Sarwar Hussain (sarangi) and others.
On the fourth day Pallavi Pote, granddaughter of acclaimed vocalist Ram Marathe will start proceedings. This would be followed by performances by Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia (flute), Anand Bhate (vocal) and veteran vocalist Malini Rajurkar.
Pt Jagdish Prasad's son Samrat Pandit's performance would mark the beginning of the fifth day. And on the last day, the morning session will start with the performances of Kalpana Zokarkar (vocal), while the evening session would commence with the vocal performances by Apoorva Gokhale and Pallavi Joshi, and as per the tradition the Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav shall end with the performance of Dr Prabha Atre, the veteran vocalist from the Kirana Gharana.u00a0
