How would you like to participate in the making of a filmu00a0-- from acting to helping direct and take the story further? DJ Caruso, the director of Inside, through a first of its kind 'social' film experiment, invites you to log onto Twitter, Facebook and YouTube to do just that
Last week, the first 'episode' of Inside, a film directed by DJ Caruso, of Disturbia and I am Number Four fame, hit not theatres, but Facebook pages and Twitter timelines across the world. And you were expected to participate and take the plot further, in what is being billed as the first such 'social' film experience.
Supported by Toshiba and Intel, The Inside Experience aims to bring together people on social media platforms to participate in the making of the film. Here, the audience propel the story forward.
How? By helping Christina (played by Emmy Rossum), a 20-something girl trapped in a room with a Toshiba laptop and an untraceable Internet connection, that she uses to mobilise her social network and find clues to her situation. Caruso will then weave together your inputs to direct the story further, and release each of the five installments as a short episode across several media platforms until August 4, helping Christina solve her mystery with the clues offered by you.
That's not all. A casting call for a new character who will be introduced along the way ran from July 11 to 20, filling the Facebook page of The Inside Experience with video grabs of aspiring actors who've all sent in short audition videos via YouTube (another attempt to maximise the use of social media) in a bid to become part of the film.
Caruso explains, "We had to approach the film differently because there are blanks that need to be filled in by the social media audience. But that is what makes it an exciting new experience for the viewer; the opportunity to participate in the film itself. Social film is still in an experimental phase and collaborations like this will help bring new concepts, opportunities and ideas to the world of entertainment."
On August 14, the film, edited in its entirety, complete with viewers' contributions, will release on the https://www.theinsideexperience.com/.
