One of the residents informed the fire brigade when smoke started billowing out of the roof. Fire engines from the Yerawada and Naidu fire stations were immediately pressed into service.
Station duty officer Vijay Bhilare from the Naidu Fire brigade said that no one was injured in the fire and it had been brought under control completely. "The structure contained apparels and clothes because of which the fire spread rapidly and gutted the godown. The cause of the fire however has not yet been determined and we are investigating the same," said Bhilare.
The structure belonged to a Ladkat who remained unavailable for comment. A resident, on condition of anonymity, said that he woke up when he sensed a burning smell and immediately called the fire brigade. "I hope they find out the cause so it never happens again," he said.
