Nine more persons died during treatment in hospitals here taking the toll in the hooch tragedy to 25, police said on Wednesday.
Seven persons died during treatment in the Shardaben Hospital overnight, they said, adding two others died in the VS Hospital this morning. Over 20 people are undergoing treatment in different hospitals of the city after consuming illicit liquor, police said.
Police have conducted raids in various areas of the city following the incident in Majoor Gam area, where people fell ill allegedly after drinking spurious liquor.
A large quantity of raw material used in preparation of spurious liquor along with containers and bottles used by the manufacturers was also seized during the raids. However, no arrests have been made so far, police said.
