He gave slip to the police twice but luck ran out for Pedda Gunda, a notorious rowdy on Saturday. Gunda was shot dead by officers from the Organised Crime Wing (OCW) of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) while he was trying to escape.
Pedda Gunda was a rowdy-sheeter from Basaveshwara Nagar and Rajarajeshwarinagar police stations, and had 14 criminal cases pending against him.

These included one double murder, murder, attempt to murder, dacoity, robbery in Basaveshwarnagar, Vijayanagar, R R Nagar, Rajagopalanagr, Tavarekere police stations. He has been involved in Tony and Suri (local rowdies) murder case reported in Kengeri.u00a0
According to PI Lokesh from Rajagopalanagar police station, the incident took place near Priyadarshini Handloom Factory, 2nd main road, Peenya 2nd stage on Saturday.
His team got the information that Gunda was roaming in Rajagopalanagar, Laggere, Peenya, Mahalakshmi Layout, Kamakshipalya areas.
Lokesh got the information that Gunda was on a bike and heading towards Priyadarshini Handloom Factory Road. Just when the team was reaching the said area, a speeding motorcycle approached them.
When the rider saw the police vehicle, he turned and tried to escape, but the bike skidded and fell in the grass. The rider however managed to flee, leaving the pillion rider.
The cops identified him as Gunda, and the inspector asked him to surrender before the police. But, according to the police, he whipped out a pistol and fired at them. One bullet hit head constable Krishna on his leg and he fell down.
EncounterThe inspector asked him again to surrender and fired two rounds at Gunda, just as he tried to fire at them. "In the meantime, ACP SY Hadimani and his team had covered Gunda from the opposite side. Gunda tried to fire at them as well, but collapsed when a bullet fired by the ACP hit him," said Lokesh.
The profusely bleeding Gunda was then rushed to Victoria Hospital and was declared dead by the doctors after an hour. The Rajgopalanagar police have registered a case. Constable Krishna has been admitted to a hospital.
Gunda's previous escapes' On December 8, after getting a tip off, a team from OCW comprising an ACP, three inspectors and their juniors laid a trap to nab Gunda. He was with his associates on Laggere Ring Road in Rajgopalanagar.
When the police surrounded his gang, Gunda attacked a constable by hitting him with his head and managed to escape.
The 10-member armed police team could not arrest him, but managed to nab his other associates.
' In the wee hours of December 17th, CCB inspector Raviprakash and his team again went to Gunda's hideout at Tawarekere in Ramanagar district and arrested him.
However, Gunda managed to escape again by hitting Ramachandra, a constable, on his head before fleeing. A case was registered in Tawarekere police station in this regard.
