Even after 72 hours have passed since preventive vaccination for H1N1 started in the city, merely eight medicos have opted for the vaccine. Just one doctor got vaccinated at Aundh Civil Hospital while the number called to take the vaccine was 90 over the three days. Just seven people opted for the vaccine at YCM hospital in Pimpri.

Fearing side effects, most of the medical fraternity that was supposed to take the vaccine has stayed away from it.

Scared doctors?
Officials in the state's swine flu control room admitted the weak response to the French H1N1 vaccine.

"In three days, we have reports of only one person opting for the vaccine at Aundh. We believe people are scared, but we would like them to learn from the example set by others," said Dr C A Kante, officer in charge of swine flu cell.

At Sassoon soon
Kante said vaccination would begin at Sassoon hospital in two days.

"Medical workers from civic hospitals will also be referred here," said Dr Kalyan Deshpande, assistant director of health services.

Some officers said over-estimation while preparing lists of probable medicos for vaccination as the reason for low turnout.
