There was some good news for the differently-abled in Mumbai with the Bombay High Court directing the state housing agency to reserve one per cent of the open category flats for the disabled in the ongoing lottery process for flats in Mumbai.

The Bombay High Court today directed the state housing agency, MHADA, to reserve one per cent of the open category flats for the disabled in the ongoing lottery process for flats in Mumbai.

This would be over and above the two per cent already earmarked for the persons with disability.

The division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice Niteen Jamdar also directed MHADA to make appropriate amendment to its regulations to increase the reservation for the disabled from the present 2 to 3 per cent, in accordance with the 'Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995'.

India Centre for Human Rights and Law, an NGO, had filed the present PIL, saying that MHADA did not increase the reservation despite an order by the High Court last year.u00a0
