MiD DAY brings an untold story from relatives of Chandrashekar Babu, the BJP supporter who was killed while on his morning walk in Lalbagh

As we entered Ittamadu on the southern outskirts of Bangalore, where Chandrashekar Babu lived, we found that the route was lined with garlanded photos of the slain BJP worker.

Babu, also described as a goon trying to get out the murky world of crime to enter politics, was hacked to death in the presence of his mother, when they had gone to Lal Bagh for a morning walk last week.

When we reached his house, we were not allowed to enter. Someone at the gate said no one was in, so we couldn't go in.

Come after the third day of his funeral, another bystander told us. We then met the neighbours, and they praised Babu and said he was a decent man.

As we turned back, disappointed, we saw a big house, which had a dozen cars inside. We started chatting with a barber who has a shop opposite, and he told us the house belonged to Babu's uncle Muniraju, a landlord.

We decided to meet Muniraju, but we were not sure if we would be allowed to meet him.

We rang the bell, and the gardener came and asked us who we were.

When we told him that we belonged to the press, he told us to wait. After a while, we were ushered into the drawing room where we came face to face with Muniraju.

Muniraju told us Babu was his elder brother's son. He said Babu used to be very generous in giving money to the needy.

He said the news of Babu's murder in Lalbagh was a shock to him and his family. Babu had as many enemies as friends.

He was reportedly encouraging rowdies who he thought would help him run his business.

Not involved

He allegedly got involved in a crime war where he unwittingly became a victim.u00a0 His father was generous, and gave away land cheap, or free, to poor people in the village (now a part of Greater Bangalore).u00a0

But after his father's death, Babu had allegedly tried to squeeze money out of them.

Police are trying to find out how papers relating to Babu, a history-sheeter, suddenly went missing from the area police station.
