Fraudsters hacked into the credit card account of an employee in a private firm and swiped his card online till the entire limit of Rs 1 lakh was utilised.
The hackers also contacted the bank and changed the customer's mobile phone details to ensure he did not receive any SMS alerts.
Novonil Chatterjee, who held a Standard Chartered Bank credit card, had gone to Westside Store in Garuda Mall and used his card to make the payment.

To his utter shock the card could not be used, as he was credit limit had been exhausted.
"I immediately rushed to the bank's branch on MG Road and complained to the branch manager Latha Ganesh.

Upon verification, I found out that all the transactions were made online in cities like Delhi and Mumbai," Chatterjee said.
"The card was with me all the time and I have not shared it with anyone or made any purchases. I can substantiate this," he added.
According to Commercial Street police the hackers were professionals.
"It was a systematic hacking," a police officer said, adding that the hackers also obtained Chatterjee's card details and called up the bank to change his mobile number so that he would not be alerted.
"Chatterjee did not get any SMS alert even though such a big amount was transacted online," said a police officer from the Commercial Street police station.
Police suspect the gang operates in several cities. "We have obtained some clues based on the mobile number the hackers gave to the bank. We are working on it," the officer added.
