Businessman Chandrakant Tupe (65) from Hadapsar died in a fatal mishap last morning on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway near Malawali village. The accident took place after Tupe's speeding Pajero car rammed into a slow-moving container from behind.

Four people and the driver in Tupe's car were also injured in the accident. The injured were identified as Tupe's wife Vijaya (60), grandchildren Aarti Sandeep Tupe (16) and Jay Sandeep Tupe (11), and driver Sambhaji Chormule. They were admitted to the Noble hospital for treatment.
According to the Lonavla rural police, Tupe was returning with his family to the city from Mumbai in the wee hours. The driver lost control over the speeding car when they were near Malawali village. Their car rammed into the container that was moving in the same direction.
The police said till almost an hour-and-half after the accident, neither an ambulance nor a crane had been dispatched by the company that contracted for this purpose. They said because of this traffic on the Expressway was affected for more than three hours.
