Heavy rainfall lashed the city last evening, causing major traffic congestion owing to water-logging in the city.
Sources from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune, said it was the delayed post monsoon syndrome.
Till 8.30 pm, 42mm rainfall was recorded in the city. This may be the highest post monsoon rainfall till date, a source from IMD said.
Heavy rain in the city led to water-logging, making it
difficult for vehicles to move on the roads
Dr A B Muzumdar, deputy director general, weather, IMD, Pune, said: "A low pressure thundershower activity is causing heavy rains in the city.u00a0
The post monsoon rainfall in the Pune region shall continue for the next four days."
The rainfall started from 7 pm and the quantum of rainfall was more in the outskirts of the city. More than 20 incidents of tree collapse were reported by the fire brigade.
Residents from Baner said the flow of water was so powerful that two-wheelers were swept away.
The cement channels constructed for Dev Nadi in the area proved to be futile once again. "Water was not flowing in the channel but spreading to the nearby areas," said Anupam Saraf, a resident from Baner.
Water-logging was also seen at Senapati Bapat Road and Gokhale Nagar, he said.
Disrupted power supply also caused major inconvenience to people in Pashan and Bavdhan.
The disrupted power supply also hampered the PMC water supply division.
"It will hamper supply of water to almost all areas in the city and outskirts, said Pramod Nirbhawane. "Residents will get low pressure water today."
