More trouble is in store for the Lokpal Bill drafting panel with Justice Santosh Hegde, a key-member of the drafting committee seriously contemplating stepping down from the panel.
Speaking to MiD DAY, Hegde said, "There appears to be a campaign against the panel and hence, I want to reconsider my decision." He added that he had very reluctantly agreed to be on the panel. "Now that I see this smear campaign, it saddens me." Hegde is set to consult other civil society members before taking a final decision.
"The government is expected to pass it off as any other bill and never once was the campaign expected to garner such a huge response. Now that it has become a reality, there is a campaign and it stinks," Hegde said adding, "First it was against Anna Hazare and now it's against the Bhushans. There is an attempt to derail this unique campaign."
Hegde however refused to comment on the Bhushan's saying he leaves the decision to quit the drafting committee to the father-son duo.
On Congress leader Digvijay Singh's remark that he was protecting CM Yeddyurappa, Hegde said, "I am hurt by his comment. But being a retired judge, I do not have the energy to fight this."
