Calling government officials has always been difficult, but with the numbers listed for the Department of Women and Child Development, reaching the right person is even tougher.

Under the RTI and Contact Us tabs of the agency's websiteu00a0-- https://dwcdkar.gov.inu00a0-- is a list of employees, their status and contact details. However, it's the contact details that will leave a caller surprised.

While trying to reach the government officials, we discovered that most of the listed numbers were wrong. We ended up speaking to children, annoyed housewives and even a plywood salesman.

Shymala Iqbal, director, Department of Women and Child Development, said, "I have no idea how this could've happened. We've given the website the right numbers as per our information." She added, "This is something that we will have to look into."

The National Infomatics Centre that usually runs government websites says it's clueless in this matter.
Suresh Maiti, Senior Systems Analyst, said, "We have given certain departments control over their websites.

But I really don't know how it can happen." He added, "It'll have to be found how an error like this could happen. We don't even know who developed the website."
