Help is just a call away

Bangaloreans can now help a person in distress on the street by just dialing a number

The next time you walk by someone lying on the street with no one to help or witness an accident but fear the procedures involved, you can now help with just a simple call.

Bangaloreans can report all this without fear, and an ambulance with doctors will be sent to help those in need, through NGO RVM Humanitarian Hands' 24x7 helpline RVM, formerly known as Ravi V Milwani, founder of Humanitarian Hands, said, "The idea is that if someone is walking on the street and sees someone badly hurt, and wonders how he can help and all he needs to know is that help is just a phone call away."

Calling for help
He added, "The helpline was launched in June last year, but we hardly received any calls. Now we get about 25 calls a week. We take in those who are mentally challenged, but we have lost a few patients because they were really sick."

Milwani said, "Our hospital is very basic but our patients will get a warm bed and three meals a day."

Prathana Unkalkar, director, iVolunteer, said, "It's a great concept. There are plenty of those out there who need urgent medical treatment. These people can't afford to go to a proper hospital."

Meena Dave, CEO, Bangalore Cares, said, "We need the public to take a minute out of their lives and just make a call that will help."

She added, "People are just so desensitised now and they're busier than ever, we need them to care."
