After MiD DAY reported on a 3-year old mentally challenged girl's close shave with death, help has started pouring in from all quarters. Social worker Dilip Bhanushali, who has been given custody of the child, said that he has been receiving many calls from various organisations, who expressed their willingness to help.

MiD DAY had reported in yesterday's edition that the child had first been dropped down two floors by her mentally unstable father, who then took her to the railway tracks nearby, and sat there, waiting to be run over by a train (âMan drops daughter 2 floors, then sits on rail track with her'). Hearing of her plight, over 17 NGOs and one TV producer called in with offers for help.
Bhanushali said, "I would like to thank MiD DAY for their support. I have received calls from many parties who have offered all sorts of help for the girl. I am overwhelmed by the support."
Bhanushali also received a call from Tehmi D Shroff, director of The Research Society for the Care Treatment & Training of Children in need of special care.
Shroff said, "We will first undertake mental and physical tests in Wadia hospital for the girl.
A doctor I am familiar with will perform tests for free. I spoke with Bhanushali, who said that the girl is happy and has become attached to Bhanushali and his family. I will personally visit her and speak to Bhanushali."
Bhanushali added, "I would like to take her for the medical check up suggested by Mrs Shroff, so we can understand to what extent she is mentally challenged. She is doing well and is very active - she is getting along very well with my two sons." u00a0
