An anonymous call about two powerful bombs being planted inside a luxury hotel in a busy area of Guwahati caused panic among the people today was found to be a hoax.
Police said a caller rang up the Grandstarline Hotel and said two powerful bombs were planted in the hotel. The security forces rushed there and immediately evacuated all the 30 guests and cordoned off the area to launch a room-to-room search operation. Sniffer dogs were also pressed into service, while army's bomb disposal squad and fire brigade appeared on the scene.
However, no bomb was found in the hotel premises and the search operation was later called off. Investigation was on to trace the caller. The call caused panic among the people as the area witnessed several bomb blasts by the ULFA killing many in the recent past.
