Techies don Lalit Modi's role and organise a cricket series for their cabbies. It's a first, and it's happening in Bangalore
Techies are batting for their cab drivers to go out there and take the wind out of the IPL and ICL.
They are planning a league for cabbies, and it will be called the Drivers Premier League.
"The DPL will be as intere sting as the IPL or ICL," said an ambitious Seetharam Vishwanath, manager, AOL. "We want to encourage talented cabbies and cricket is an interesting sport to cheer them up with."
Driver Premier League
The DPL comprises cabbies from Northern Trust, AOL, HP, Intel, Cisco, Honeywell, Aditya Birla and Accenture. They will be playing for the prestigious Crystal Trophy.
"This is for the first time that cabbies working in the IT industry will be brought together for such an event,"
said Vishwanath. "It will boost their morale. We will be a part of the game, too."
Transport managers and transport supervisors of these companies will select their team and the techies will be the cheerleaders.
Finally, techies of the Outer Ring Road Companies' Association (ORCCA) will play a match against the winning team.
A message
But it isn't all about cricket. The motive behind this tournament, added Vishwanath, is also to make the cabbies aware of the traffic situation in Bangalore and give them road traffic guidelines.
