One step into the premises, and I felt a half-senorita, half-student. Coming from what I gathered to be a class were soft-spoken sounds of lessons on Spain, albeit not the kind you were burdened with, back in school. It isn't just Pablo Picasso who put Spain on the world map, you'd gather from art experts' words here. Real Madrid, bullfighting and the country's rich cultural heritage come a close next in taking Spain places. And now, it's here, right in the capital's lap.

Classic Collage: Picasso's work spanning over seven years showcases the artists' innate sense of imagery and understanding of human nature |
A new Spanish institute, and perhaps the only one of its kind in the whole country, 'Instituto Cervantes' has opened its door to Delhiites. Just a day old, it has already started working towards spreading the many forms of lovely Latin culture among city-folk. A weeklong festival beginning today includes just about everything you'd expect from the land of matadors and masterpieces. An exhibition of Picasso's works between 1930- 1937 are up for view, to start with. The series includes different portraits, plates and varied compositions referred to as the much-appreciated 'Battle of Love'.
For those whose interests are a tad more tempo-driven, the fiery Flamenco does it. There's also countryside photography and nice cinema to chew on. "And contrary to what we believe, as a language, too, Spanish is easier in pronunciation than even Hindi!" signs off an enthusiastic Carmen Caffarel, director, Instituto Cervantes. You'd certainly enjoy her company. We did.
