IMCT to assess damage in cyclone-hit areas of Puducherry, Tamil Nadu

The government on Thursday constituted an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) for on-the-spot assessment of the situation in the wake of Cyclonic storm ''Thane'' in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu.


The government on Thursday constituted an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) for on-the-spot assessment of the situation in the wake of Cyclonic storm ''Thane'' in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu.

The IMCT, lead by Ministry of Home Affairs, consist of the representatives from the Ministries/ Departments of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (Fisheries), Drinking Water, Finance (Department of Expenditure), Health, Power, Road Transport and Highways, Rural Development, Water Resources and Planning Commission.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will also be represented in the Team.

The team is to visit shortly in consultation with the Governments of Puducherry and Tamil Nadu.

It may be recalled there that Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, who visited the cyclone-hit areas earlier this week, assured all assistance to those affected by the cyclone ''''Thane'''' and said that a high-level central team would visit Puducherry and Tamil Nadu soon to make an on-the-spot assessment of the damage caused by the cyclone.
