Illuminati's bassist Varun, speaks up about the band and the music they'll be performing at Hard Rock Cafe
Illuminati, may make you think of secret cults from Dan Brown novels, but there is nothing conspiratorial about the six rockers who make up this Rock band. They started off a couple of years ago as a bunch of college kids trying their luck at various college fests. A few years on, they are professional musicians. Illuminati, the Pune-based rock band who've done the rounds at numerous fests since their formation in 2006, are back with new set of songs since last year. The members include Varun (Bass and Vocals), Uday (Rhythm Guitar), Mrinalu00a0 (Lead Guitar), Kunal (Drums), Tanvar (vocals) and Maanavi (vocals).
The band is greatly influenced by Blues, Rock 'n' Roll and hard Rock. They are ranked 6th by MySpace world charts and and rank 21st across the world. The band's focus has changed since their college days. "There is lots of difference in the rock concerts we did to wins titles and today playing as professionals. We have grown-up and become more matured. It's no more about playing a couple of covers and getting away," says Varun.
The band is all ready with their set list of original compositions. 90 Miles, which they are recording over the weekend, is a special favourite. The concert will have some of their originals and covers. "Its about a person's journey and the 90 miles he travels. The problems he comes across, the incidents that happen make up this song," Varun relates with quiet pride.
What sets Illuminati apart is their focus on making their own music. It's a team effort stick to despite lesser returns. "It might take a long time before there is a platform here for people making original music," says Varun. But thankfully they're not giving up.
