A week after a senior female resident doctor was allegedly assaulted, two more physicians residing at the institute hostel were attacked by two men who illegally entered the campus
While patients may be in safe hands at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the doctors are feeling less secure. Earlier this month a senior female resident was assaulted inside the hospital.

Now there are reports that two more doctors residing at the institute hostel were attacked by two men who illegally entered the campus. According to students, the men entered the campus and assaulted the girls who were walking inside the premises. By the time the security officer came the perpetrators had disappeared.
"This is happening everyday. Sometimes at the girls hostel, sometimes at the residential complexes, but still no action has been taken. Girls are too scared to move out of the hostel area and now they are not safe inside also. Where will they go?" said Debjyoti Karmakar, President, Resident Doctors Association, AIIMS.
The doctors on campus say they have been continuously facing the problem of security in the hospital as well as the hostel and the residential complexes. In the first incident, it was alleged that when the female doctor was looking at a patient, an attendant became aggressive, grabbed her collar and slapped her. According to sources available in the ward at that time, while the doctor was looking after a person, four people who had arrived there with a patient were forcing the doctor to first look after their family member.
After the incident, doctors demanded foolproof security in the institute and the suspension of the security officer who was available at the time but did not take any action. The doctors have been continuously sending representations to the director, deputy director and other head of departments.
Recently, the physicians also sent a representation to the Assistant Commissioner of Police of the area, to get hold of the culprit.
"We are not at all satisfied with the security in the campus. The institute has been taking the issues very lightly. After the first incident, more security guards can be seen around the ward area but they have been moved there from the hostels," said Debjyoti.
The doctors wore black badges on Monday to protest against the manhandling of a senior resident by the attendant of a patient at the hospital earlier this month. The doctors have been continuously venting their anger against the police and the administration on their official facebook page named 'RDA AIIMS'.
"It's the time for the medicos to 'treat and cure' the police too. 7 days have passed, the attacker is still free, 7 days have passed, there is no increase in security, 7 days have passed, the same mismanagement continues are we so insignificant?" said the post by the doctors.
Vacancy
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is all set to issue advertisements for the first large-scale recruitment of doctors in six years. And for the first time, recruitment will be done as per the institute's very own reservation roster which defines new conditions for reservation of vacant faculty posts, subject to Constitutional guidelines. After a meeting at the Ministry of Health on April 6, AIIMS was instructed to start the selection process for at least 100 faculty posts at the Assistant Professor-level.
