While it is common knowledge by now that Rashtrapati Bhavan has 340 rooms, here are some other facts about our President's official home.
Lutyens' Delhi
Rashtrapati Bhavan was designed by British architect Edwin Landseer Lutyens. The construction started in 1912 and ended in 1929. Lutyens was a very well-known architect who has designed several momuments in New Delhi. In recognition of his contribution, New Delhi is also known as 'Lutyens' Delhi'.
Raisina Hill
Raisina Hill, the area which houses the Rashtrapati Bhavan, gets its name from Raisina and Malcha villages which were cleared to make way for Rashtrapati bhavan.
Kalam's hut
During APJ Abdul Kalam's tenure, a little hut was built in Rashtrapati Bhavan's Mughal Gardens, where he used to spend his evenings and mornings. It was demolished later.
Filmy connection
The song 'Des Rangila' from the movie 'Fanaa', starring actor Aamir Khan and Kajol, was shot at Rashtrapati Bhavan including its rehearsal scenes.
Mughal Gardens
The Mughal Gardens, situated behind Rashtrapati Bhavan, have a variety of flowers. They are open to public in February every year.
