Blame it on the counterfeit spares being sold under branded cover

If your vehicle is giving you problems despite a recent visit to the garage and complete overhauling then chances are that it is running on fake spares.

The District Intelligence Unit of the Central district and officials of Enforcers of Intellectual property Rightsu00a0 (EIPR) a private intelligence agency arrested two shopkeepers and a supplier red handed while delivering fake spares to the shopkeepers.

According to the police officials, the accused were running a wholesale business of counterfeit parts and were also supplying it to garages in the city and also other states like Haryana and Punjab.


The two shopkeepers have been identified as Harish Kumar and Vikash. The two have an automobile spare parts shop at the Karol Bagh market.

The duo procured engine parts from the supplier identified as Amit Kumar. The two had been in the business for the last three years.

"We had received a tip off about shopkeepers selling counterfeit auto spare parts. We laid a trap on Wednesday afternoon and caught them red handed with fake pistons and bearing of a well-known brand," said a police official.

The police also raided a nearby warehouse belonging to one of the accused and seized hundreds of pistons, spark plugs and other engine parts.u00a0

Dhirender Singh, a spokesperson for the EIPR, said more raids would be conducted with the police.

The police have registered a case and booked the three under section 63 of the Copyright Act.
