Don't just sit there with your laptop; it may make you infertile. Dr Sunita Tandulwadkar, head of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Ruby Hall IVF and Endoscopy Centre, says 30 to 40 per cent of infertile couples that visit their centre today are diagnosed with Male Factor Infertility (MFI). Ten to 20 per cent of this number is IT professionals.

MFI is caused by long hours at the desktop, prolonged placing of the laptop on the lap, sitting in one place for long, which elevates the scrotal temperature, and thus brings down the quality of semen.

Dr Tandulwadkar explained, "The temperature of the testicles should be two degrees less than body temperature.

Prolonged sitting elevates the scrotal temperature, which reduces the sperm count and mortality."

Dr Sonal Vaidya, an embryologist, said all men leading a sedentary lifestyle were at risk.
