The Sun God is worshipped during Sankranti.u00a0The festival is associated with agriculture as it falls around the harvesting period. People celebrate Sankranti by cooking special food items and sweets at home. There will also be family get-togethers.

Different communities celebrate the day differently. Kannadigas follow the tradition of 'ellu-beerodu', which is a mixture of 'til', jaggery and sugar cane is exchanged with friends and relatives.
