Family of a young mother who died at a premier hospital during childbirth seeks support on the web
She was all alone when she went on to fight the negligence of a premier city hospital that allegedly killed her sister during childbirth.
But now, 173 people are supporting her cause and she did not have to take out a protest march or paste posters all over the city.
Deepika Manchanda achieved it online. Deepika launched a website www.fightagainstmax.info a signature campaign against the Max hospital, a month ago.
"The response is overwhelming. I regularly update the website with whatever information I get. It's time to divert all the pain and anger for a cause and to make sure it doesn't happen to anyone else," Deepika told MiD DAY.
MiD DAY was the first to report the tragic death of Deepika's 30-year-old sister Nikita during childbirth at the Max Healthcare, Pitampura.
On May 5, within two days of giving birth to a son and running up a bill of almost Rs 90,000, the assistant manager with Genpact, died in the Intensive Care Unit of the premier hospital.
An RTI regarding the case has also been filed with the Delhi Medical Council (DMC) seeking justice. The Council has sought a copy of postmortem report, histopathology and chemical analysis report from the police. DMC has already received statements of defence from Dr Alka Gupta, consulting gynaecologist and Dr Rajiv Kapoor,
administrator, Max Hospital, Pitam Pura. The executive committee of the council has directed the matter to be placed before the disciplinary committee for examination.
The assessment report of Nikita Manchanda said that though she complained of severe pain in her abdomen and back, she was prescribed pain-killers by a doctor on the telephone.
When her condition didn't improve, the doctor on night duty, Dr Pooja, superficially examined her and failed to diagnose her case. Nikita was declared dead at 12.30 pm on May 5.
Nikita, was working as an assistant manager with Genpact, and her husband, Aman Sarna, too was with the same company.
