Jaipur court summons KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan

Actor and co-owner of Kolkata Knight Riders Shahrukh Khan was on Thursday directed by a local court to appear before it on May 26 after he was seen smoking at the SMS stadium during an IPL match.


Taking cognisance of a complaint filed by a private cricket academy, the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Shilpa Sameer summoned the actor.u00a0

In his complaint, Anand Singh, who runs the Jaipur Cricket Academy, had sought action against Khan under section 5/11 of Rajasthan Prohibition of Smoking Act, 2000, which prohibits smoking at a public place.

Khan was seen smoking on April 8 during a match between the teams of Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders, the petitioner said.

Singh filed the complaint on April 9. He said that pictures of Khan puffing away were published in newspapers the next day.

Singh's counsel said that there is a provision of cash penalty of Rs 200 for violation of the act for the first time.

Khan was not available for comments.
