Sonia Sehgal promises to give Bangaloreans an evening to remember
Listening to jazz music, sipping your favourite glass of wine while the rain beats a steady tattoo on the pavement outside is the recipe for a perfect evening. Jazz artiste Sonia Sehgal and keyboards artiste Harmeet will perform tonight at Olive Beach.u00a0u00a0u00a0
Uncanny beginnings
Sonia Sehgal started her career in Delhi's hotspots. "I have no professional training in music. I guess music runs in my blood with my father and mother both being singers," she says. But Harmeet has a different story to share. He started playing the keyboards when he was 24 years old at an impromptu jam session with his buddies and he was hooked.u00a0
The real thing
"Knowledge about jazz is rather limited in this country. The worst part is that some musicians in the name of jazz mislead people by playing any kind of music," says Sonia.u00a0u00a0 " It is also de-moralising, but when I know that what I am doing is what I always wanted to it gives me a sense satisfaction," she adds. For Harmeet it's the love for music that keeps him going. "At the end of the day the qaulity of music depends on how good the artiste is. If I play bad music, people may begin to dislike the whole genre! If I play well, the listener will be involved in no time."
High-five for the south
"I have fond memories of Bangalore, because I feel this city is culturally open to all kind of art and music," says Harmeet. Sonia says she has always met interesting people down south u00e2u0080u0094 be it Chennai, Hyderabad or Bangalore.
"People have an in-depth knowledge of music here and I am expecting some good crowd tonight. Of course, I am very optimistic!" she adds.
