According to police, the jeweller, Naresh Soni had closed up his shop at 1 pm situated at Palam market and went back home, which is a few hundred metres from his shop, for lunch. "Later after he came back at around 4 pm, he saw shattered glasses and broken doors" said Deputy Commissioner of Police, southwest, AK Ojha.

"The shopkeeper Naresh Kumar Soni (48), living with his wife and two daughters in Raj Nagar. Soni had been living in the area for the past two decades and his shop is known as Naresh Jewellers, who came to clean up his show room early in the day.

"The jeweller reported 22 lakh in cash along with six diamond rings and 20 kg of gold worth around Rs 4.5 crore missing," said a senior police official. "There was also a registered gun of the shopkeeper, kept inside the shop, which was left untouched by the suspect. This explains that the motive was to loot cash and gold," added the police official.

According to police, the CCTV cameras at the showroom did not record any footage due to the non-availability of proper light and it seemed that the burglars had disabled the cameras before they carried out the robbery.
In the last twenty days, this is the third such incident which has taken place in the same area. The miscreants took advantage of the market being closed on Wednesday. Earlier a robbery was reported at the Sri Balaji Jewellers in the locality where the burglars had fled with 2 kg of gold and Rs 10,000 in cash.

A police team arrived at the scene to get forensic evidence from the scene of crime. A case of burglary has been registered in Palam Village police station and so far, police has detained a servant of Naresh.
